A Few Announcements

There has been a lot of talk in the last couple of years or so about whether photographers should take their business online to social media platforms. Companies that are not successfully working through channels like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or delivering content through their own blogs and online forums are deemed dinosaurs by social marketing enthusiasts. While there are examples of photographers who have leveraged social media to deliver their business to increasing numbers of people, this does not mean this form of online marketing is for you. ‘To tweet or not to tweet’ will depend a great deal on your objectives and your personality.

This is the opening paragraph to my new article, “To Tweet or Not to Tweet” over at Nature Photographers Online Magazine.  If you are considering taking your photography to the next level, or if you have some ideas or resources to share, the full article can be found here.

On that note, a powerful way to advertise your products can be through affiliate programs.  Everyone benefits!  Here is Visual Wilderness’ new affiliate link for more info.  If you like our eBooks and are prepared to recommend them (and get a percentage of sales in return) you may want to check this out.

Finally, for those who live in the Calgary area, Darwin and I are demystifying how to photograph with tilt shift lenses.  If you have purchased a tilt shift lens and are baffled by how to work it, or if you are considering purchasing such a lens, come out and hear how to use these special lenses for nature and landscape photography!  The Camera Store is sponsoring this talk and will have several tilt shift lenses on hand to try out, or bring your own!  We’ll be delivering a short talk and then practising outdoors.  There are only 15 spots for this talk to ensure everyone gets assistance so register now by contacting The Camera Store if you are interested in these lenses.

  1. A member from our company recently did a talk at the future of web design that had an interesting quote. “Twitter is foolish and silly until you start using it”.

  2. It took a while for me to get my head around what twitter was and how I could use it professionally. I’ve been using it for about 6 months now and who am I kidding, I LOVE IT! I am building relationships with pro photographers who give me feedback on my work. It’s easy to introduce your work to possible clients plus it’s a lot of fun. I can honestly say I’ve made quit a few valuable connections. Sure it takes a bit more of your time but for me it is paying dividends.
